Ninety-Third Street Parents,

While students learn a lot at school, they gain an equally important education outside of school as they spend time with friends and family and travelling, exploring, and experimenting in a variety of environments. I look forward to hearing about all of this learning each and everyday your children return to Ninety-Third Street. They always have lots of great stories to share with us.

While the start of the 2016 school year is just beginning, I am very enthusiastic about the coming year as we will continue to build on the momentum we generated last year. Specifically, we will continue to grow and deepen our academic program in terms of both curriculum and instruction. The Common Core Standards will be fully adopted this year at all grade levels making for a more integrated and rigorous approach to learning. Our TK-2 teachers will work collaboratively to implement an Intensive K-2 Academy Instructional Approach to addressing the needs of our Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 students. This approach will focus on building students’ conceptual understanding of foundational skills and increasing their problem solving abilities in small group instructional multiple times of the day.

We will also continue to build new models for reading and writing instruction that will differentiate instruction and push students to reach their highest potential. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) will begin to be a school wide focus in 2016-17 with a new science program being launched an expanded iPad program, Google 3D Expedition Project, 5th Grade Starbase Camp program, and an expanded curriculum in our learning garden.

In addition, we will begin our Dual Language program in 2016-17 to include not only our English Learner Students in Kindergarten but now our Standard English Learners. Whew! We’ve got our work cut out for us but it will be amazing for students!

At Ninety-Third Street, we will also continue to focus on connecting students to school through weekly assemblies, educational field trips, special activities, and spirit days. Parent participation will continue to be a priority as we look to increase parent training and involvement. Our goal will be to match your skills to our school’s needs as well as be creative about the ways we can get parents involved in new ways to support student learning. Please be sure to visit our new school’s website at https://93street-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/

As you already know, our biggest fundraiser of the year is through direct donations to our PTA. This year we are calling this campaign “Jaguar Bucks”. We are looking for 100% participation in Jaguar  Bucks this year and I strongly encourage each of you to join and donate to our PTA. While the state provides a minimum level of funding for our school, it is truly the PTA through Jaguar Bucks will  fund the many, many outstanding programs and trips at Ninety-Third Street Elementary future STEAM Magnet School.

I will see you all at Ninety-Third Street Elementary  for our monthly  “Coffee With The Principal” event so check our website. If you are new to our school, I look forward to meeting you and your family and getting to know your child. I am truly overjoyed to lead and participate in such a fantastic school. Together, we will do incredible things for student learning. Let’s Go, Jaguars!
